MARYBOROUGH GIANTS 2.4 (16) def by NATTE BEALIBA 24.14 (158)

An utterly dominant second half from Natte Bealiba showed just how much of a premiership threat the Swans are as they defeated the Maryborough Giants by 142 points at Hedges Oval.

The Swans were able to bounce back from losing the second quarter to score 17 goals in the second half to just one behind as they vaulted straight to the top of the ladder, increasing their percentage to 302 in the process.

The Swans dominated the first quarter to kick five goals to no score as they led by 35 points, but to the Giants’ credit, they were able to play well in the second quarter, kicking two goals to reduce the margin slightly to 34 points at the main break.

Whatever playing-coach Trent Mortlock said in the sheds worked wonders for the Swans as they were able to sweep aside the Giants in the third term, kicking nine goals to just one behind to increase the lead to 90 points by the final change.

A further eight goals to no score meant that the Swans were able to put in a powerful performance ahead of a season-defining fortnight against fellow premiership contenders Carisbrook and Harcourt.

Will Cameron continued his recent great form to again be named as the Swans’ best, while Jai Howell, Mortlock, Keynan Lanfranchi, Bailey and Jordi Cossar were also named in the best.

Mortlock, for his part, led 10 goalkickers for the Swans with five, while Howell kicked four, Cameron three and Will Holt three.

For the Giants, John Leathan was their best, with Archer Patterson, Cody Wright, Ron Smith, Peter Wytkamp and Seth Hoskin also named in their best players.
