Maryborough Rovers were soundly defeated by Natte Bealiba at Princes Park on Saturday by 94 points.

Rovers went into the game minus a number of key players from the previous week’s victory over Avoca and it did not help when star player Billy Mahony suffered what could be a serious knee injury during the opening term.

Rovers did an outstanding job to contain the Swans to just a 25-point lead at half time, which included a goalless second quarter from both teams, but the floodgates opened in the second half as the Swans started to move the ball with precision.

Eight goals to no score in the third quarter underlined the Swans’ excellence, while Rovers at least fought out the game by kicking two goals in the last quarter, while restricting the Swans to five goals.

Jayden Templeton was the key forward kicking eight goals, and the speedy Jordan Fraser also slotted four in the Swans victory, and both were named as the better players for the Swans along with Zac Mortlock, Jye Mortlock, Kurt Mortlock and Callum Harte.

Rovers will have been happy to improve vastly on a 216-point loss in the corresponding game last season, as well as recording 11 scoring shots compared to two last season. Their best players were Dylan Evans, David Le Poidevin, Montgomery Reeves, Marshall Murray, Jacob Plier, and Jack Dawson with Liam Radlof the only multiple goal scorer kicking two goals.
