NATTE BEALIBA (44) def NAVARRE (32)
It was tough, it was physical and it was all the hallmarks of a traditional clash between Natte Bealiba and Navarre, this time, won by the Swans by 12 goals.
The Swans did what they needed to do, although they were made to fight for it by a Navarre team that has made life difficult from a defensive standpoint, and did so again on Saturday, conceding 44 goals.
Still, it was the Swans that got the fast start, scoring 14 goals to 10 in the first quarter. Emma Ryan scored nine goals, and Polly Douglas added five. For Navarre, Mollie Simpson scored seven goals, and Annabelle Price three.
The Swans continued to sneak away on the scoreboard in the second term, scoring 11 goals to eight to lead 25-18 at the main break. Douglas scored seven goals to lead the way for the Swans, while Ryan scored four, and for Navarre, Simpson scored seven of the Hoppers’ eight goals.
It was a defensive battle in the third term, with the Swans scoring 11 goals and the Hoppers seven, leaving the former in front 36-25 at the last change. Ryan scored six goals for the Swans, with Douglas adding five, while for the Hoppers, Simpson scored five and Price two.
The game showed no sign of letting up defensively in the last term, with the fewest cumulative goals in the last term with 15 between the two teams. Natte scored eight of the 15, with Ryan scoring six to finish with 25 goals, while Douglas added two to finish with 19. For Navarre, Simpson scored five to finish with 24 goals, while Price scored twice.
The Swans now move to a clash with Talbot, while Navarre will have the bye.
