The match was hotly contested in the first half, as the Saints showcased they could compete with the best in the competition.

There were no cobwebs for Saints’ shooters Sharma Ford and Kasey Button and Swans goal shooter Emma Ryan, as they only missed two shots in the opening term.

It was the Swans who had the smallest of leads at quarter time, ahead 10-9.

Following a compact first quarter, the midcourt began to slightly open up, providing more freedom to supply the in-form shooters with more chances to get on the scoreboard.

The two teams continued to trade blows in a high-octane term which ended 16-14 in favour of the Swans, who entered the half with a three-goal lead.

With the Swans keen to flex their muscle, defenders Ellie Martin and Bella Westbrook began to shut down the service to Ford and Button, conceding only five goals in the third quarter while the Swans continue to pile on the goals.

Ryan managed to net 15 goals in the third quarter, breaking the game open for the Swans as they took a 44-28 advantage heading into the final quarter.

The Swans kept their foot on the gas until the final whistle, as the defence remained suffocating while the attack exploded for a 21-6 final quarter.

Nineteen goals in the final term allowed Ryan to finish the day with 57 goals, while Shannae Mills ensured the Trentham defence couldn’t solely focus on Ryan with nine goals herself.
