NAVARRE 3.6 (24) def by NATTE BEALIBA 13.9 (87)
In the battle of the old rivals from Lexton league days, it was the undefeated Swans that had a comfortable victory by 63 points.
It was a nice touch to see the senior and reserves players from both teams line up for Navarre’s Daniel Reading to enter the field for his 200th senior game.
The Swans opened strongly kicking three goals, before the 200 gamer Reading was able to score the first goal for the Grasshoppers in the dying stages of the opening stanza.
Natte continued to maintain the power in the second term kicking four goals to nil including a brilliant piece of play from coach Trent Mortlock, who at the time was playing full back, and ran eighty metres to be on the end of a handpass and goaled on the run.
Navarre fought back with the first two goals of the third term through Dante Lorusso and Ollie Notting to get within 25 points of the Swans.
But Mortlock put his foot down with two goals in two minutes to take back the ascendency for the Swans, as they kicked out to lead at three quarter time by 47 points.
The visitors coasted to the line with three final quarter goals including Mortlock’s fourth for the game and Stephen Ross’ third goal.
Ross is playing as good as football as he has throughout this career and posted another best on ground performance for the Swans. And others amongst the Swans better players were Mortlock, Toby Beavis, Daniel Vadala, Jye Mortlock and Will Cameron.
Navarre’s Sam Walker again shone for the Grasshoppers, as did Reading, Luke Hendy, Notting, David Kirtley and Angus Taylor.
