It was an incredibly efficient first quarter which made all the difference for Natte Bealiba as they took a 26-point victory over Dunolly at CHS Broadbent Oval.

The Swans were inspired in the opening term to completely take charge in soggy conditions, and kicked five goals from nine scoring shots to no score to effectively end the contest at quarter time, leading by 34 points at the first change.

Dunolly needed to do something in the second term, and to their credit, they were able to hit the scoreboard to at least keep themselves in the contest with some interest, kicking three goals.

However, Natte still managed a goal at the other end to maintain a 24-point lead at the main break. It was goal-for-goal in the third term, with Dunolly doing their utmost to get closer to the Swans, yet it seemed for every question the Eagles asked, there was an answer waiting in the wings. Nevertheless, it was the Eagles who were able to win the quarter narrowly, reducing the margin to 22 points at the final change.

The Swans were able to do what was needed as the gap that was established from the opening term proved to be too much of a mountain to climb for Dunolly, although they would have been happy with their efforts across the last three quarters.

Aaron Hayes was colossal for the Swans, and was named their best in what was a good team effort, with Bailey Cossar, Will Cameron, Daniel Vadala, Jai Howell and Brady Templeton named in the best.

Jayden Templeton led all scorers with three goals for the Swans, while playing-coach Trent Mortlock kicked two.

The Swans will now have a big task as they host Carisbrook at home in their quest to secure the minor premiership.

The result was a setback for Dunolly’s quest to make the top four, now sitting a game behind Lexton, but they’ll have a chance to regain their spot with a clash against Campbells Creek next week while the Tigers have the bye.

Lachlan Tranter did what he could for the Eagles, while Mitchell Goodwin, Oscar Keogh, Xavier Ryan, Bailey Goodwin and Dylan Lee were also named in the best.

Jack Merrin led the scorers for the Eagles with three goals, while Mitchell kicked two.
