There was more success for students at Maryborough Martial Arts, as well as head instructors Brian and Heather Carr, when they took to the Australian Taekwondo Victoria State Poomsae Championships.

Embarking on the trip to the Darebin Community Sports Stadium in Reservoir on May 12, a contingent of six competitors — Jose Carberry, Staci Jones, Noor Baharum, Heather, Emily Carberry and Brian — were successful in taking home five gold and one silver medal.

Jones also participated as an official and a judge for the day, having now done so for two years.

Almost 400 competitors made it one of the biggest Poomsae competitions in some time, which allowed the Maryborough contingent to shine on the big stage.

Emily competed in her first state tournament at 11 years of age, having achieved her second degree black belt in March, and performed admirably.

The recent success continues Maryborough Martial Arts’ prolific title-winning form, having compiled over 300 state and national titles since 2005.
