With more than 300 residents showing an overwhelming demand for a water play area, the Central Goldfields Shire Council (CGSC) is now working on a feasibility study to assess the viability of a splash park in Maryborough.

As part of council’s recent play spaces survey, which received feedback from over 350 community members, around 90 percent of responders stated that they supported the development of a water play facility in the shire.

Data collected from the survey will be used to create council’s Places for Play: Play Space Strategy — a blueprint to oversee the development and management of play spaces across the shire for the next 10 years.

It will also be used as an important point of reference for a feasibility study, assessing the potential of a splash park in Maryborough.

“We thank everyone who took the time to provide feedback,” CGSC councillor Grace La Vella said.

“We heard loud and clear that play spaces are important to our community and that you’d love to see a water play park facility here,”

“The Places for Play: Play Space Strategy and the Splash Park feasibility study will help us better understand what the possibilities are, and how much investment we would need to make this happen.”

In addition to the survey, consultants have undertaken further research for the splash park — mapping locations, site inspections, cost analysis and benchmarking with other councils.

It is anticipated that the draft strategy and draft feasibility study will be ready for additional community feedback early next year.
