A property was destroyed by fire in Talbot this week, with local fire brigades working to extinguish the blaze for close to five hours.
Brigades from Talbot, Clunes, Maryborough, Carisbrook, Mount Cameron, Lexton and Burnbank were called to the blaze in Sorrensons Road, Talbot, shortly before 5 pm on Tuesday.
Brigades arrived to find a series of three conjoined sheds fully engulfed by flame, with a nearby shed also under threat.
“We were initially called out to a smoke sighting and I could see the black column of smoke, so I knew it was either someone burning something they shouldn’t have been or it’s something a bit bigger,” incident controller Troy Greenwood said.
“It initially looked like one shed that was on fire but it was actually three that were combined.
“We weren’t able to save those sheds, however another shed that was right beside them and had an early model Holden inside was able to be saved.”
Mr Greenwood said brigades remained on scene for almost five hours extinguishing the blaze and cleaning up, with a cause yet to be determined.
“We’re lucky and grateful the owner wasn’t home at the time, he was on his way home when it all happened so it could have been worse,” he said.
“A fire investigator did attend on Wednesday morning but no cause has been officially stated as yet.
“I’d certainly encourage property owners to do their due diligence around fire prevention even in the colder months because as this incident has shown, a fire can happen at any time and it can be destructive.”
