Strong start to 2025 for Team Lazaros interstate

It’s been a great start to the competition year for Team Lazaros BJJ & Muay Thai, with three members competing interstate on the first weekend of February.

The girls secured seven gold medals and one silver across the two states, first competing in Sydney on Saturday, February 1 and Brisbane the following day.

In Sydney at the BJJ Initiator Crown, seven-year-old Marlee Jez won gold in the eight-year-old 36 kg white belt division, scoring 13 points to two in the final.

Alayla Savvidis also won gold in the 69 kg girls juvenile gi blue belt division after winning in a walkover.

Bella Savvidis won gold in the 48 kg girls gi grey belt division on points, nine to zero and also took gold in the 46.9 kg no-gi girls grey belt division with a 38 second submission.

Bella Savvidis continued her great form into the following day at the 2025 Brisbane Championship, winning an additional two golds.

She won her first match in the girls grey belt gi 48 kg division with a 35 second arm bar submission and followed it up with a two point victory in the final.

She also won the girls grey belt no gi 46 kg division by points, with the final score 10 points to zero.

Alayla Savvidis also won gold with a 44 second submission in the juvenile girls blue belt +69 kg division.

Jez was up 7-0 and had a submission at 2 minutes 9 seconds, but unfortunately she was disqualified for an illegal wrist lock and got the silver medal.

It was a fantastic effort and a strong start to the season, with many more competitions happening throughout this year.
