Three teams can begin their March plans after securing a finals berth following round 10 of the A reserve competition.
Clunes 4/99 def Natte Yallock 97
A massive batting collapse paved the way for Clunes to take a comfortable victory over Natte Yallock at Bull Millgate Oval, booking their place in the finals in the process.
Behind Trent and Zac Mortlock’s 65-run partnership, things were looking considerably good for the Swans, with Trent making 29 and Zac top-scoring with 44.
But Zac’s dismissal triggered a collapse which saw the Swans lose their final seven wickets for 28 runs, and their final six wickets for just 16.
Muhammad Shehzad bowled well for Clunes, taking 4/23 and reliably cleaning up the tail.
In response, the Magpies did it relatively easily, save for a mini-collapse which saw them lose three wickets for just five runs.
But guided by Mark Jenkin’s 29 and Noah Davies’ 25, the Magpies were able to maintain top spot on the ladder.
Tate Williams was Natte’s best bowler, taking 3/33.
Carisbrook 8/155 def by Maryborough 5/281
Maryborough’s high scoring ability came to the fore once again as they defeated Carisbrook by 126 runs at Carisbrook Recreation Reserve.
Batting first, Lachlan Bursill set things up well for the Owls by making 75, his third 50 in the competition this season, while Ben Robertson’s 38, Bradey Tranter’s 72 and Kris Bagley’s 39 helped strengthen their claims.
Michael Cook was Carisbrook’s best bowler with 2/24.
In response, Brook were never really in the game, but they did have some good knocks from Brian Knight, who top-scored with 48, and Elliot Cullinan, who continued his recent good form with 22.
Pravin Yadav did the damage for the Owls, taking 4/20 off eight overs, as Maryborough continued to hover around top spot on the ladder.
Colts Phelans 5/200 def by Talbot 9/216
Over 400 runs were scored at Hedges Oval in a run-fest that had a little bit of everything, as Talbot maintained their hopes of clinching the minor premiership with a 16-run victory.
The Yabbies had to do quite a lot of work to ensure they would take the victory, with Jack Kenden scoring 93, while Karl Gunther added a further 25, in what was a consistent performance across the board.
Jibb Iglesias led the way with 3/27, while Dean Walker took 3/28.
Colts were on a mission when it was their turn to bat, with David Forde making 45, Daryl Groves making 40 and Walker making 47, but while they were very gallant throughout their innings, they fell just short of a remarkable victory.
Jorde Bux was in good form, taking 2/29, while Kenden was among the wickets after his starring role with the bat, taking 2/44.
MKM 62 def by Beaufort 82
While MKM celebrated their 90th anniversary on Saturday night, it was Beaufort who were celebrating their first win of the season as they took a 20-run win in a low scoring affair at Ron Sinclair Oval.
Despite the loss of two early wickets, Beaufort made a steady start and got themselves to 2/46 before the loss of Andrew Grant, who had scored 23.
Kenneth Arch and Richard Stokes provide some reasonable middle-order hitting, getting the score up to 72 before losing their last six wickets for 10 runs.
Tristan Tack bowled well to take 3/20, while Kushal Khamar had a late cameo in taking 2/2.
After the Mill made a good start to get to 1/29, Stokes weaved some magic to cause middle-order carnage to ensure the Crows would take six wickets for just 19 runs, and eventually bowling the Mill out for 62.
Stokes 4/13 off eight overs was crucial, while Malcolm Woolley (2/0), Harrison Jones (2/17) and Dan Quixley (2/21) also took multiple wickets.
Round 11
Despite there being four rounds to play, three of the four finals spots are already booked, such is the runaway nature of the top three teams.
It means fourth-placed Natte Yallock will have their hands full with trying to fend off the likes of Colts Phelans and Carisbrook, although their own task will be tricky this week when they welcome Maryborough to Natte Yallock Oval, fresh off their big win against Carisbrook.
Top plays third in a blockbuster encounter at Talbot Recreation Reserve, with the Yabbies hosting Clunes in what’s sure to be a high-octane encounter.
Colts Phelans are best placed to pounce if Natte Yallock encounter trouble, and they’ll have an opportunity when they host MKM at Hedges Oval. Colts are currently just one game behind the Swans in fifth, while the Mill will be hoping to rebound and grab their second win of the season.
Carisbrook still hold an outside chance of making the finals, and will need to defeat Beaufort at Goldfields Reserve to harbour any chance of getting to the last fortnight of the season. A win could see them close to within a game of Natte Yallock in fourth should results go their way.
