Strong numbers for 2026 Goldfields Fun Run
The Maryborough & District Triathlon Club conducted its sixth annual Fun Run, utilising the Goldfields Reservoir Walking Track on Sunday, June 14, with participants producing outstanding performances and personal best times on the day.
Strong competition and times were produced by all athletes in the long course (9.8km), which involved six laps of the track.
In the Open Male category, it was course record holder Glenn McMillan who produced another outstanding performance to take line honours in the fastest time of the day (40:21).
Jesse Leenaerts (47:54), Jake Wright (61:58), and Jacob Elliott (64:25) also maintained excellent running form to take second, third, and fourth in the Open Male category.
Young-gun triathlete Ella Govan enjoyed her first Open Female long course event, powering to the finish line in the fastest female time of the day (47:15). Georgia Wright (63:25) and Charlotte Fithall (67:33) also displayed strong running form to take second and third respectively in this category.
Jo Butler proved she hadn’t lost any of the strong running form that crowned her the 2012 Female long course winner in its inaugural year with an outstanding performance, clocking 57:07 to win the 50+ Female long course category.
Mildura-based runner Brooke Higgs also enjoyed the course, posting the strong time of 57:50 to take out second place. Shaun Higgs just pipped Brooke at the finish line (57:49) to win the 50+ Male long course category.
Young Lleyton Morse participated in his first long course event, and just like his father Matthew, displayed outstanding running form to win the under 16 Male long course category in 64:04.
The short course (4.9km), which involved three laps of the walking track, was highly competitive with a field of Open Male participants who all took a real liking to the course conditions to produce strong times.
Matthew Morse set a cracking pace from start to finish to produce an outstanding performance, clocking the fastest short course time of the day (22:19) to win the Open Male category.
Kate Cain also found the course conditions to her liking, winning the Open Female category in the strong time of 30:35, with Jessica White (37:39) crossing the finish line in second.
Martin Mark won the 50+ Male short course category in 30:44, and young Jaida Morse also excelled in the under 16 Female short course category to take first place in 34:25.
As the June event was the last of the 2025/26 Club Championship Season, the club will now celebrate its Club Presentation Dinner on Friday, July 9, 2026, at the Bull & Mouth Hotel.
All current and past members, friends, and family are invited to come along to celebrate the achievements of the club and its members throughout the last 12 months.
