Recent good results across the country has produced a feelgood factor within the Maryborough Little Athletics Centre as their athletes continue to excel.
The headline result saw Charlie Sullivan competing in Brisbane for the Australian Junior Champion-ships, where he successfully took a bronze medal in the men’s under 14 4 x 100 m relay alongside teammates Lachlan Rosato, Nate Pokorzynski and Cooper Nunn in a time of 50.24.
Sullivan also finished ninth in the 100 m sprint, scoring a time of 12.74.
Last week, the club was well represented at the Stawell Gift, with Thomas Henderson finishing second in the 100 m handicap final.
Henderson won his heat, qualifying with a time of 12.003, which was enough to see him win by three tenths of a second, as well as the second fastest time overall. In the semi finals Henderson was quickest, setting a blistering pace of 11.81.
A thrilling run followed in the final, with Henderson and Essendon’s Chase Jardine at the front. In the end, Jardine would take the win with a time of 11.78, nudging out Henderson, who finished in a time of 11.82.
Henderson’s sister Naomi, who was recently the recipient of the Overall Centre Star Award for Maryborough’s 2022/23 season alongside Jack Mason, also had a terrific result at Stawell, finishing fourth in her semi-final and narrowly missing out by just five hundredths of a second on a berth in the final, finishing with a time of 12.937.
Kody Wright also competed in the 100 m handicap, finishing in a time of 12.535, but was eliminated in the heat stage. He also competed in the 400 m race, finishing second in his heat with a time of 55.224, just missing out on the final.
