Tens of thousands of stamps will be on show this weekend, much to the joy of local philatelists, with stamps of every colour, design and size from across the world making their way to Maryborough.
For many years the postage stamp has been more than just a means to send a letter or parcel to someone, but a way to learn about history, events, places and people, all in a tiny format.
It’s the reason the Maryborough Stamp Club have organised tomorrow’s stamp exhibition, as a means to not only fill out its member’s collections, but also show the community what the stamp collecting business is all about.
The exhibition will feature eight different stamp dealers and collectors offering something for everyone, as well as several dealers selling coins as well.
Making its return after a three year hiatus, Maryborough Stamp Club member Steve Greenwood said the stamp exhibition is one worth visiting.
“There will be a whole heap of stamps from all across the world gathered here which is something pretty special,” he said.
“I couldn’t even guess how many stamps there’ll be, but it will be tens of thousands and some will be worth several thousand dollars.
“There are a lot of people out there who collect stamps and things and this will really be a sight to behold.”
The exhibition will take place tomorrow, Saturday, October 22 at the St Augustine’s Parish Hall from 9.30 am until 3 pm, with light refreshments provided for a small cost.
If residents would like to learn more about the stamp club or to join, club secretary Grey Loyer can be contacted on 5460-5008.
