SPORT SNAPSHOTS — Under 17 Kirton Shield
The Maryborough District Cricket Association (MDCA) has entered another Country Week competition this week as the under 17 representative side has battled for the Kirton Shield.
This year marks the third year the MDCA have participated in since their return to the competition, as they looked to improve from last year’s performance, which saw them miss out on finals after claiming two wins.
Their campaign didn’t start out as they would have hoped on Monday, losing to Ballarat away from home by 155 runs.
Thang Nguyen top scored with 27 for MDCA while Oliver Cassidy, Benjamin Grant and Hunter Kurzke all claimed two wickets.
The MDCA looked to bounce back on Tuesday as they played on the turf wicket at Carisbrook Recreation Reserve against the Grampians.
The match was a thrilling contest with momentum swings aplenty, but unfortunately for MDCA, they were the unlucky team to come up just short by one wicket.
Cooper Mark anchored the batting innings with a top score of 37 while Cooper Cahill and Lachlan Condie excelled with the ball, taking two wickets each.
At the time of production, the MDCA returned to Carisbrook as they hosted Grenville for their third game of the Kirton Shield.
