Splash of fun to end term one

Term one at Timor Primary School came to a colourfully chaotic end at their first ever Foodfight last Friday to raise money for Foodbank.

As oppose to real food being used, students stormed an obstacle course to avoid getting slimed, and later had the chance to get back at their teachers.

In response to the support Foodbank has given the school, event coordinator Michelle Coburn said this was a unique and fun way to give back to an important cause.

“The Foodbank Foodfight was the messiest, most fun way to help raise funds for those in need, that is their slogan. Foodbank supports our school community by providing grocery relief to our families as well as supporting our breakfast club,” she said.

“As a community, we wanted to give back to a charity who supports not only our little school of 44 students, but who also provides food relief to 2844 front line charities and 3379 other school breakfast programs. Foodbank also makes this fundraiser easy to organise and provides support in the lead up to the event.”

As a result, the school raised a higher than expected $2800, which will go directly to Foodank.

Following the events success, the school hopes to hold similar fundraisers in the future.

“It has been the hype around the school for the past month in the lead up to the event. You can tell by the children’s faces how much they enjoyed the event, I feel they enjoyed sliming the staff the most,” Ms Coburn said.

“The students, staff and school community had a fantastic time participating in this event. The obstacle course provided students with a structured base on how they could rotate from activity to activity. Due to the success of the event, we hope to offer this bi-annually.”

She said the school is grateful for the families, the school and wider community for supporting the event.

“We are very proud of our school community supporting it for the first time. We thank all families for coming along and taking part of this day,” Ms Coburn said.

“We are grateful we could come together as a small community to fundraise for this very worthwhile charity who support so many families.

“Special thanks to all the staff and volunteers in ensuring our student had a fantastic time.”
