Maryborough Soccer Club were unable to find their first win of the season on Sunday, with Daylesford and Hepburn United too strong in a 4-2 victory.

The loss was a blow in Maryborough’s hopes of moving up the table, where a win could have moved them up to sixth. Instead, they will stay seventh for the time being.

Daylesford scored two goals in the opening half, but Maryborough were able to stay in touch through the boot of Luke Bucknall, who was able to put through the blue-and-whites sole goal of the half.

But Daylesford were able to keep assuming control of the game, and added another two goals to make sure of the three points, while Bucknall was able to add a second of the game.

Similarly, it was a struggle for Maryborough in the under 14 game that preceded it, with a powerful Daylesford side inflicting their first loss of the season, winning 10-0.

This upcoming game against Bacchus Marsh will now see the seventh-placed blue and whites take on the ninth-placed Scorpions.

It’s an opportunity to get on the winners’ list, with the Scorpions also scoring the equal-fewest goals this season, while having a leakier defence, conceding 16 goals for the season so far.

Bacchus Marsh are coming off a home defeat to Creswick, losing 3-2 on Sunday. It will also be the first home game for the club, with the upcoming game scheduled at Jubilee Oval for Sunday.

The under 14 game will precede the senior action, with their game scheduled at Jubilee at 12 pm against Bacchus Marsh, in what will be a battle between fourth and fifth on the ladder.

Maryborough’s under nine squads will be travelling into Ballarat for their fifth-round matchups, with Maryborough Gold playing Ballarat at Trekardo Park, and Maryborough Blue playing Ballarat North United at Russell Square.
