Soccer club up for the fight

Maryborough will be looking for a big opportunity to climb off the canvas of the ladder when they host bottom-of-the ladder Daylesford and Hepburn United at Jubilee Oval on Sunday.
The blue-and-whites should be refreshed from their bye, and will be hoping to turn around a 4-2 defeat to Daylesford in their last meeting in round four.
On that occasion, Daylesford were able to take a 2-1 lead going into half time, and doubled their score to eventually take their first win of the year.
Maryborough were dealt a blow in their own quest to score their second win of the season in their last game, losing 3-1 to Creswick at home.
The blue-and-whites were able to take an early lead through Jake Bucknall, but Creswick soon hit back, and were able to take control of the game.
Maryborough will also have to deal with missing reliable goalkeeper Bayden MacIntyre this week, who was sent off in their loss to the Cougars.
A win will see Maryborough move four points clear of Daylesford, and could yet also see them get an opportunity to move past Bacchus Marsh into seventh position ahead of an intriguing meeting between the two teams next week.
Elsewhere, an outstanding hattrick from Darcy Wood powered Maryborough’s under 14s to a 3-1 victory over Bacchus Marsh Yellow last Sunday.
Wood scored all his goals in the first half to help the blue-and whites take their sixth victory of the season, moving them up into fourth place ahead of a meeting with second-placed Daylesford in the curtain-raiser at 12 pm.
Maryborough’s two under nine’s teams will also have an opportunity to play one another, with Maryborough Blue playing Maryborough Gold at 10 am.
