It was heartbreak for Maryborough Soccer Club in their penultimate home game of the season, as an early two-goal lead went begging in a 4-3 loss to Vic Park.

The blue and whites started the game off incredibly strongly with two goals in the first 10 minutes.

Firstly, Thomas Clinton was able to score from close range after a free kick hit the bar in the third minute, with Clinton reading the ricochet the best.

Then, Brett Davy, in his last game for the season, was able to score after an excellent move from Clinton helped set him up to give them a two-goal advantage in just the eighth minute.

But Vic Park were determined to get back into the contest, and they were driven by Ryan Liston, who would score two goals in seven minutes to give them a pathway back into the game by the half-hour mark.

Maryborough were still causing chaos whenever the ball was in their attacking zone, and were rewarded with a third goal when a corner was bundled into their net for an own goal in the 34th minute.

At half time, the blue and whites led 3-2, and were desperate to preserve their lead.

But it wasn’t to be, as in the 61st minute, Liston completed his hat-trick, levelling the scores again.

In the 84th minute, Vic Park led for the first time in the game when Daniel Stute was able to score, consigning the blue and whites to their 10th loss of the season.
