Maryborough put up a valiant effort against top team Vikings, eventually losing 3-0 at Jubilee Oval.

It was a terrific effort from the blue-and-whites’, who had seen Vikings defeat Creswick 10-1 the week before, and showed just how tenacious the defensive structure has become under Jack Schafer.

Vikings found it hard to break down the Maryborough formation, but were able to score a goal to lead 1-0 at the break.

Two further goals for Vikings meant that they would find things a little bit more comfortable in the second half, but it certainly wasn’t without their challenges, especially considering they had scored 23 goals in their six prior matches.

Maryborough still remain bottom for the time being, and face another difficult task in their next game following the King’s Birthday weekend, which will see them take on second-placed Forest Rangers.

Pleasingly, Maryborough were able to take a win on Sunday, with the under 14s taking an exhilirating 5-4 victory over Vikings, with Darcy Wood scoring a brace, while Brayden Martin, Zac Eggers and Jacob Antolini also scoring.

Their next match will see them travel to Ballarat White at Pleasant Street, while the under nine Maryborough Blue team will be playing at Bacchus Marsh. Maryborough Gold will have the bye.
