Maryborough Soccer Club’s first game of the season was a tough one against Ballarat North United, going down 7-0 at Russell Square on Sunday.

An impressive roster of 16 players took to the park over the weekend as the blue and whites were prepared to show that they had improved over the off-season under new coach Jack Schafer, and while the result may not have gone their way against last year’s grand finalists and minor premiers, they had also improved from their last meeting, when they lost 9-1 last season.

Still, it was all Ballarat North United in the first half when they were able to score four goals to take a commanding lead at half time.

Maryborough were better in the second half, but Ballarat North United still scored three goals to give themselves the perfect start to the season.

For the winners, Samuel Coxall and Alex Worthington scored a brace.

Maryborough’s second game of the season now sees them play under lights as they travel to Doug Lindsay Reserve against Creswick tonight, where they will be hoping to score their first win of the new season.
