Sixth KIDZ triathlon hailed a success

For the sixth year in a row the Maryborough & District Triathlon Club Kidz Triathlon has attracted participation from the local and regional area to take part in the Jack Pascoe Reserve course, and with a strong crowd of supporters these budding triathletes enjoyed their first (or in some cases sixth) taste of the sport of triathlon.

Participants and families travelled from as far afield as Ballarat, Bealiba, Dunolly, Natte Yallock, and Carisbrook for the event, and with many parents supporting their sons and daughters the event had an exceptional family feel.

There were smiles all round as the young triathletes crossed the finish line and received their finishing medallion.

At the conclusion of the event all participants were nourished with bottles of water, bananas, oranges and apples compliments of Woolworths Maryborough.

Triathletes were well supervised in the Maryborough Sports & Leisure Centre 25m indoor pool compliments of Unified Community Sport and Leisure, with Triathlon Victoria providing the sanctioning and triathlete packs for this important participatory event.

“It is great to see the returning and new faces at the Kidz Triathlon, and to see the huge smiles on their faces at the end of the event was fantastic,” long serving club volunteer and triple Open Male champion Adam Lowery said.

Club president Martin Mark was also very appreciative of the volunteer support at the event putting out a big thank you to all the volunteers who assisted with set-up, marshalling, and pack-up on the day,

“We could not run a successful event like this without that support, it is greatly appreciated,” he said.

The club would also like to thank all its other sponsors and supporters including The Maryborough Advertiser, Cycle City Ballarat, and Fitter Faster whose support is vital to the ongoing viability of the club’s operations.

The Maryborough & District Triathlon Club will continue to plan the Kidz Triathlon event on an annual basis to provide an opportunity for novice triathletes to experience the sport of triathlon and promote physical activity through swimming, riding, and running.

The club’s next event will be held on Sunday, April 13, 2025 from the Maryborough Sports & Leisure Centre and will involve a reverse triathlon with a short course option for new and developing triathletes.
