Significant roadworks set to commence in Gladstone Street this week
A section of Gladstone Street will be closed and rebuilt over the next three months, with residents to expect delays as the significant roadworks get underway.
Expected to start on Thursday, 1.2 kilometers of road along Gladstone Street between Balaclava Road and Holyrood Street Maryborough will undergo significant upgrades, part of the State Government’s $675 million regional road blitz program.
Member for Ripon Martha Haylett said these works are one of many extensive repair projects commencing throughout regional Victoria.
“We want the roads to be safer and more pleasant to drive on. It’s a part of the 2024-25 road maintenence blitz, and part of a broader package of roadworks. It will make the journey smoother and more reliable for this busy stretch of road,” she said.
Gladstone Street is the only road in the Central Goldfields Shire to undergo the reconstruction within the State Government’s regional road blitz program.
This will include pothole repairs, resurfacing and replacing multiple layers of road to enhance durability and the safety for all road users.
“Roads is the number one issue that I hear about, so I am always wanting to make sure that we fix our roads properly, and this is not just a patch job. This is very significantly restructuring the road,” Ms Haylett said.
Crews will be onsite between 7 am and 6 pm on weekdays and Saturdays.
The works will take approximately 12 weeks to complete, with weather permitting.
“It’s a very significant restructure of the road expected to start very soon. There will be some delays, but it’s a huge upgrade to the road,” Ms Haylett said.
Speed restrictions will be in place along with lane closures under traffic management supervision.
Delays of up to five to 10 minutes are expected.
Motorists are advised to plan ahead when works begin on one of Maryborough’s busiest roads.
“It’s important to add that little bit of extra time to the morning and afternoon commute for getting the kids to school and back,” Ms Haylett said.
Residents and businesses have received emails and letters regarding the works.
A detour will be in place for heavy vehicles except for school and PTV buses, with electronic signage boards to highlight the route.
