For the first time in 37 years, siblings Ted Scarce, Bob Scarce and June Wade are all in the same place, embracing their sibling love.

Bob and June made the nearly 20 hour trip from York in the United Kingdom alongside their friend John Pulleyn to visit Maryborough resident Ted for six weeks.

The last time all three siblings were together was back in 1987 for Ted’s daughter Debbie Hall’s wedding in England.

June said she cherishes every opportunity she has to spend time with her brothers.

“I mainly came here to visit my brother — it means a lot to me to be together as a family for these six weeks and it has made this trip absolutely brilliant,” she said.

The moment has been made even more special for the family considering the challenges of travelling long distances during retirement ages.

June, who is 86, said that her age and extra planning didn’t deter her ambitions of travelling to Australia.

“The first time I came over, I flew on my own and I just threw some bits and pieces together in a case and came over,” she said.

“As you get older, you have to bring more things you need while you are travelling to ensure you’re safe and healthy so you do need to prepare more as you get older.”

Bob, who is visiting Australia for only the second time and celebrated his 88th birthday last Sunday, echoed her sisters sentiments, and said he was thankful to be able to come visit his family.

“There was lots of reasons for me to come back, it is a nice country, much warmer, and we have got a lot of relations over here,” he said.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed this trip because we have done so much — we have gone along the Great Ocean Road and we have been to all these wonderful country towns.”

“I will play it year by year to see if I am capable but I think I will be back.”
