Familiar faces are set to appear on television this Saturday, with Maryborough to feature in an episode of Nine Network Australia’s Country House Hunters.
The episode will feature iconic locations including the Central Goldfields Art Gallery, Maryborough Railway Station and other, well-known places and people in and around Maryborough.
Central Goldfields Shire mayor Liesbeth Long said this type of national exposure is valuable for the region.
“It’s terrific that Maryborough has been selected for profiling by this program, showing off our attractions and investment opportunities to the whole of Australia,” she said.
“It’s about encouraging the broader community to look more closely at what we have on offer, which is important for our continued growth and development.”
The program saw David Graham and Simon Thomson, owners of local luxury accommodation business Whiskey June and the Station Cafe interviewed.
Mr Thomson said for the region to be exposed at a national level is an exciting opportunity.
“We haven’t seen the episode yet so we will be watching it for the first time with everyone else just before we do piano bar,” he said.
“I think this is a real opportunity on a major network to showcase the best of Maryborough and encourage people to think about living here.
“Maryborough has a lot to offer and a lot of reasons for people to consider Maryborough — it has got such rich history, a beautiful main street with beautiful buildings, a warm welcoming community and a lot of services for a town of our size.”
Council’s manager tourism, events and culture Rosalie Hastwell said there is much for the community to be proud of across the shire.
“When people come to the Central Goldfields as visitors or seeking a place to live, they are often amazed at what they find,” she said.
“Two of our key attractions — the beautiful Central Goldfields Art Gallery and the amazing railway station — appear in the episode along with other aspects of the town.
“It’s exciting to see how these recently revitalised attractions are leading a major uplift in visitation as well as gaining overwhelmingly positive responses from residents.
“The Country House Hunters episode is a powerful way of sharing with an audience of many thousands some of the great strengths of Maryborough and the shire as a place to live.”
Hosted by Catriona Rowntree, the heartwarming series guides 10 couples on their quest to find the perfect country home.
Country House Hunters in Central Goldfields will air at 5.30 pm this Saturday, February 3 on Channels 9, 9-HD and 9NOW.
