The Maryborough & District Triathlon Club conducted the second event on its 2022/23 Club Championship Calendar from the Maryborough Sports and Leisure Centre on Sunday, September 11.
Triathletes were greeted with pleasant sunny conditions and light winds, which were well received by all.
The event was a replica of the August event with the long course reverse triathlon format involving a 2 km run, 8 km cycle (2 x 4 km loop), and 400 m swim, and the short course 1 km run, 4 km cycle, and 200 m swim.
In the open male long course, it was Josh Britten who set the early pace on the 2 km run with Jeffrey Beer and Duncan Bates in hot pursuit. All triathletes then enjoyed outstanding cycle and swim legs to set strong times.
Josh maintained his leading position throughout the event to touch in first place (31:53), Jeff Beer (33:22) in second place, and Duncan Bates (36:40) in third place.
Helen Lusby, Emily Ryan, and Rowena Butler participated in the 50+ female long course and also enjoyed the course conditions. Each triathlete excelled in multiple triathlon disciplines which ensured outstanding results for all. Rowena Butler produced the fastest category time of the day (39:06) to finish in first place, with Emily Ryan only strokes behind (39:25) in second place, and Helen Lusby (43:24) continuing her improving form in third place.
In the short course it was young gun triathlete Ella Govan who set the fastest time of day (24:35) to win the under 16 female category. Triathlon newcomer Matt Cain also proved he has natural triathlon ability finishing in the second fastest time (25:34) to win the open male category.
In the open female short course category it was Jacqueline Beer who set the fastest time of the day (26:03) to take first place, with Kate Cain (27:04) in second place, and triathlon club newcomer Marnie Ireland (33:45) enjoying the course to take third place.
The next club event will be a long course triathlon involving a 400 m swim, 20 km ride, and 4 km run on Sunday, October 9 from the Maryborough Sport and Leisure Centre, with short course options as well.
Registrations commence at 9 for a 9.30 am start.
