A second quarter blitz was key to Maldon’s 26-point win over Lexton.

It was a tight opening to the game, with Lexton having more opportunities, kicking two goals from six scoring shots, but Maldon were the more accurate team, kicking three goals straight to lead by two points at the first break.

But the Dons’ second quarter was critical in giving them enough breathing space to control the remainder of the afternoon. They kicked four goals, while holding Lexton to one, to give themselves a 22-point lead at the main break.

The third quarter was a high-scoring one. While Maldon had more scoring shots, with 10, they were inaccurate, converting four, while a plucky Lexton outfit kept themselves in the game by kicking five goals straight. However, the lead was still 22 points as they turned for home.

The last quarter paled in comparison to the third quarter, with just one goal scored by either team. But for Maldon, it mattered little, as they kept their spot in the top eight thanks to their 26-point triumph.

Seb Greene has been a big contributor for the Dons to start the season, and he was again their best in the win, while Matthew Gray, Josh Pascoe, Brodie Leonard-Shannon, Alex Farrow and Billy Johns were also named in their better players.

For Lexton, Alex McLean played well, and was ably supported by Justin Hobson, Josh Sargent, Thomas Cullinan, Jordan Phelan and Tyler Richards.
