The key race of the meeting on Friday, September 27, the $75,000 2690 m race brought a strong field, including Major Moth, owned by Len and Irene.

Starting wide from gate five, Major Moth was able to hit the front early in the race, before holding the lead throughout.

In the end, it was Major Moth who won by nine metres, gaining speed throughout the race.

It brought Major Moth’s record to an impressive 17 wins from 33 starts, which includes three seconds and three thirds.

It was Len and Irene’s second Kilmore Cup, having previously won with Reba Rajah in 2006.

That wasn’t their only success of the night, also taking out the Reg Withers Classic over 2180 m with Meteor Moth, who similarly took the lead early in the race and held it throughout.

Major Moth is set to race tomorrow night in the Sportsbet Victoria Cup, a group one race at Melton which will also include Lexton driver James Herbertson looking to take victory on Mach Dan.
