Talbot has clinched a shock win, defeating Maldon by seven points in a thriller at the nest.

The last time these two teams met, an inaccurate result was put up with Maldon inching out in front by 28 points, however the Hawks needed a big win at this point in the season, now sitting in seventh place on the ladder and with a tough end to the home and away season.

Maldon led the first quarter of Saturday’s game by five points and extended this out to 22 points by half time.

Talbot, however must’ve gotten the rev up of a lifetime in the Hawks’ rooms, because the side came out swinging with a four-goal-to-two third quarter to sit just eight points in arrears at the final change.

Talbot had much more of the ball in the fourth, attempting seven shots at goal and keeping Maldon to just two in the same time period.

While only three of these Hawks attempts were successful, it was enough to take a memorable come-from-behind victory, much to the delight of the Hawks faithful.

Sam Hitchings was best on for Talbot, followed by Sam Gibson, Adam Scott, vice-captain Trent Barras, Jude McGuire and Nathan Bond, while Matt Bond led the goalkicking with three snags.

Bryce Coffey fought to the bitter end for the Dons, as did David Wilson, Coby Bennett, Billy Miller, Noah Thompson and Aaron Millen.

Sixth-placed Maldon plays Navarre and Royal Park on the road to finals, while Talbot will face top-of-the-ladder sides Carisbrook and Trentham.
