The AFLW season is finished for the players in the greater Maryborough district, with Trentham’s Jenna Bruton the final casualty following the Kangaroos’ loss to Melbourne in the preliminary final.
Nevertheless, it has been a successful season for Bruton, as well as Maryborough’s Paige Scott and Lauren Butler.
Bruton was one of the Kangaroos’ best in their preliminary final loss, gathering 17 disposals, continuing a consistent season as one of the Roos’ most damaging players, collecting almost 18 disposals a game, while also averaging 2.8 clearances a game.
Meantime, Butler and Scott will be looking for honours in tonight’s AFLW awards, with Butler looking to secure her first All-Australian appearance, while Scott is in contention to win the Rising Star award.
The 42-person All-Australian squad was named earlier this month, with Butler joining Collingwood teammates Jordyn Allen and Chloe Molloy as nominations for the final squad.
Butler has averaged 14.2 disposals at an elite 74 percent disposal efficiency this season, as well as taking 2.8 marks, 2.8 tackles, 3.6 rebound 50s and gaining an average of 238.7 meters per game with ball in hand.
Meantime, Scott will be looking to cap off a successful first season at Essendon with the Rising Star award.
Scott was one of the Bombers’ most dynamic players throughout the season, and while averaging 10 disposals per game — ranked seventh at the club, she was able to make an impact, kicking seven goals, while averaging 2.5 score involvements, bringing other teammates into the game. She proved to be a hard nut around the ball, winning six contested possessions per game.
The AFLW Awards will be held tonight at 7.30 pm at Crown Palladium.
