Saints score 213 past Maldon
Trentham put on an offensive clinic in front of their home crowd on Saturday, kicking a whopping 32 goals in a 188-point drubbing of Maldon.
The reigning premiers’ 213 points are the first time an MCDFNL senior team has surpassed 200 points since Harcourt finished with 210 against the Bombers in round four last season and their highest score since they booted 225 past Campbells Creek on May 25, 2024.
After kicking seven goals in that 198-point victory over the Magpies, stalwart forward Jake Keogh finished with a game-high eight goals as six Trentham goalkickers ended with at least three majors.
Fresh off booting 57 unanswered points in the first quarter against the Maryborough Giants, the Saints somehow managed to replicate that early domination at the Bombers’ expense with nine goals straight in the opening term.
For a defensive unit that’s shown several question marks over the past month, the Bombers did a solid job stemming the overwhelming attack in the second quarter, limiting the hosts to four goals and generating some forward momentum.
That momentum hit a brick wall during the second half, as the Saints expanded their already secure 14-goal half time margin to 144 points with 10 goals in the third quarter.
Assisted by Zachary Gervasoni’s excellence in the ruck, Jye Adamson and Joel Cowan were like magnets to the football in the contest, delivering delicious passes to Keogh, James Regan and Cooper Webber-Mirkin inside 50 while providing a scoring punch themselves.
Noah Thompson and Tate Webb gave the visiting supporters something to cheer about with a combined three second-half goals, but the Saints’ onslaught ended with nine goals in the final quarter to complete a memorable game for the Trentham faithful.
Adamson, Keogh and Cowan were instrumental in the dominant performance, named in the Saints’ best players alongside Gervasoni, Harrison Knight and Dylan Holden.
MCDFNL’s 2025 leading goal-kicker Regan ended the match with six majors, well supported by Adamson and Cowan’s combined eight goals and three goals from Edward Fanning and Webber-Mirkin each.
In a day to forget for the Bombers, Thompson, Darcy Kelly, Matthew Gray, Damian Wust, Liam Rielley and Webb were listed as their better performers.
