TRENTHAM (28) def NAVARRE (23)

In the lowest-scoring game of the round, Trentham were able to shrug off a Navarre challenge to eventually take a five-goal victory.

The Saints were looking to start their season off strongly, and were made to work for it by the Hoppers, who were playing under new coaches Rachel Wood and Paula Bigmore for the first time.

In the highest-scoring quarter of the day, Trentham took a narrow 9-8 lead at the end of the first change.

The second quarter was a genuine arm-wrestle, with just seven goals scored in difficult conditions. But Trentham were able to extend their lead, scoring four goals to three to lead 13-11 at the main break.

The third quarter was even, with both teams scoring eight goals apiece. It meant that the Saints were able to preserve their two-goal cushion into the final break.

The Saints made their big move during the last quarter, scoring seven goals while restricting Navarre to just four as they were able to take a season-opening victory, scoring 28 goals to 23.

The return of Zahlia Turton was a highlight for Trentham, as she scored 14 goals, while Hayley Bourke scored nine.

Erin Chisholm scored 14 goals for Navarre, while Darcy Crawford added nine.
