Runaway second half sees Lexton in front
A hotly contested first half of football blew out to a runaway Lexton victory on Saturday, taking a 35-point win over Maldon.

It was neck and neck across the first two quarters of footy at the Lexton Reserve, with mere points in it for both sides.
After a first quarter tussle, Lexton held a wafer thin lead of just three points, with both teams kicking four goals across 20 minutes of play.
This was an omen of things to come, with Maldon to chase Lexton for the remainder of the day.
The second quarter was almost a carbon copy of the first, albeit slightly less accurate, with both sides slotting three through the big sticks, as well as some spare change to see Lexton up by four points, 48-44 into the half time break.
Lexton returned from the half time break with a newfound gusto and were much more aggressive with their control of the ball into the forward 50, slotting five goals for the quarter while holding Maldon to a single, increasing the previously close margin out to 27 points.
It was Maldon’s turn to fight back in the fourth and final quarter, but inaccuracy in front of goal forced them to fight even harder to claw back at Lexton’s growing margin.
Kicking three goals and five behinds, Lexton on the other hand adjusted the range on their scope and fired repeatedly at goal, hitting seven targets for goal, with only a single behind.
At the conclusion of play Lexton were victorious thanks to their second half resurgence, with Maldon unable to make up the eventual 35 point difference.
Jordan Madafferi proved potent in front of goal for Lexton, slotting six in a best on ground effort, while Kobi Cheeseman, Patrick Gleeson, Matthew Smith-Bye, Blaire Ward and Lucas Blazko performed strongly.
On the other side of the ground, Bailey Brown was Maldon’s main avenue to goal with four of his own to be named in the best, alongside Coby Bennett, Callum Buchanan, Noah Thompson, Ashley Davies and Damian Wust.
