After a back-and-forth encounter, Maryborough Rovers increased their chances of playing finals netball with a five-goal victory in an exhilarating game.
To underline the tightness of an encounter which was very even on paper, the margin was no greater than five goals at any change, with Rovers proving to be marginally better throughout the final three quarters.
A tightly contested opening term saw both teams score 10 goals, with scores level at quarter time.
The second quarter saw Rovers take a little bit of ascendancy, scoring 11 goals to nine to open up a two-goal lead at the main break.
In what was the highest scoring quarter of the afternoon, Rovers mirrored their second quarter effort to again win the quarter by two goals, scoring 14 goals to 12 to lead 35-31 at the final break.
A tense final quarter saw Rovers score 10 goals to nine to eventually run out five-goal winners, and also resulted in Rovers closing the gap to Newstead to just half a game in the race for the final spot in the finals race.
