Maryborough Rovers took their first scalp of the season, holding off a late charge from Maldon to win by five goals.
Rovers had held the lead throughout the majority of the game, but an eight-goal three-quarter-time lead was whittled down, making for an exciting finish.
Rovers started the better as they established a two-goal lead at the first change, leading 13-11.
It was the second quarter where Rovers started to put the foot down a little bit, scoring 14 goals to the Dons’ 11 to open up a five-goal break at half time.
Rovers continued to pull away a little bit more in the third quarter, again adding 14 goals to 11 to leave themselves leading 41-33 at the final change.
While Maldon had their best quarter of the afternoon in the last, scoring 13 goals to 10, the preceeding three quarters left them with too much work to do.
Katie Tong and Jaylea Ford were among the goalscorers, scoring 12 and 11 respectively, while Bec Dewhirst scored 30 goals for Rovers, with Abbey Raven adding another 21.
