One in three people in Maryborough will need blood during their lives — and by rolling their sleeves up, locals can make a difference, one that could be lifesaving.
The Australian Red Cross Lifeblood van is rolling into town and residents are being encouraged to support the cause by donating blood.
The Maryborough Mobile Blood Donor Centre will be open for locals from May 20 to May 24 — parked near the Princes Park Grandstand.
According to Red Cross, once blood is collected from the donor, it is separated into red blood cells, plasma and platelets.
Donated red blood cells help in the treatment of a number of diseases including cancer, anaemia, stomach and kidney illnesses, as well as with accidents or surgeries.
Appointments will be available between 1 and 6 pm on May 20, 12.30 and 7.30 pm on May 21 and May 22, 9.30 am and 4.30 pm on May 23 and 7.45 am and 1.30 pm on May 24.
Pre-booking is essential and can be done at lifeblood.com.au, or on 13 14 95.
