Community members and council have been left frustrated after a large number of road signs were ripped out and dumped over a weekend recently.
One Maryborough resident woke up on Sunday, September 11 to discover two speed signs dumped on her front nature strip which she said was frustrating.
“I was told by the worker who picked the sign up that it was from near Havilah — and I’m no where near there. Apparently there had been a heap pulled out that weekend,” she said.
“The signs didn’t seem to be damaged, just pulled out. What fun do you get out of doing that? It’s irresponsible and the ratepayers have to pay for this.”
While council confirmed removal of signs and vandalism is an ongoing issue in the shire, there was an influx over the weekend of September 10 and 11.
“During the weekend of September 10 and 11, an unusually high number of incidents occurred with seven street sign/road traffic signs being damaged and/or graffitied,” Central Goldfields Shire general manager infrastructure, assets and planning Matthew Irving said.
“Council responded immediately to rectify the damaged signs.
“Removal and vandalism of street name and road traffic signs is an ongoing issue in Central Goldfields Shire.”
