Parked on the roof of a Carisbrook house, Santa has upgraded his sleigh to a monster truck and replaced his reindeers for a winged beast — and with elves watching from the yard, more fairytale decorations are taking over the town.
In the lead up to Christmas, the Rizzo family has a lot to do, and putting a tree topper on is just the beginning. From inflatable quirky characters and lights covering their lawn, to intricate snowflakes and candycanes lining their fences, there’s a story unfolding on their property, one of merriment.
“I decorate the house for my kids, I started doing it for my daughters. There’s so much enjoyment when other families are walking by and their kids are yelling, screaming and pointing at the decorations. It’s just a good feeling,” Shane Rizzo said.
“Christmas is about friends, family and happy times.”
Mr Rizzo said his daughters, Harmony and Nevaeh are massive Christmas fans and he likes to make the affair big and bright for them.
“Just the smiles on my daughters’ faces makes it all worthwhile. I don’t do it for any publicity, I do it just for me and the kids. When they go through the decorations and are happy and smiling, it makes me feel great,” he said.
Known locally as the Christmas House, for the Rizzo daughters it’s like watching a storybook come alive on their doorstep.
Sharing their father’s enthusiasm, they also enjoy watching their friends and other kids go through the decorations.
“It’s nice knowing that people are happy looking at it and we don’t do it for nothing,” Harmony said.
“Dad also enjoys it when people pull up and look at the decorations.
“We like seeing everyone happy.”
