Review for Pyrenees pools
The Pyrenees Shire Council’s 2024-25 pool season recorded a combined 6.3 percent increase in visitation to its three pools at Beaufort, Avoca and Landsborough.

A range of popular programs delivered by pool manager Belgravia Leisure and community-led initiatives, such as Friday Fundays, barbecues and school sporting participation, contributed to strong local engagement this season.
The pool season was extended due to some unexpected infrastructure breakdowns, which caused a safety-related closure and minor delayed opening times at two pools.
At its Monday meeting, council committed to continue to develop a comprehensive pools review as all three are facing ongoing ageing infrastructure issues.
This is in line with the national trend of 40 percent of public pools reaching the end of their lifespan this decade, with the average Australian public pool built in 1968.
Further plant and equipment audits will be carried out to help determine the pools’ lifespans and ensure continued short-term use, with pool tank and underground infrastructure checks planned for June-July next year.
The community’s views on pool provision and other leisure activities will also be sought between December this year and February 2026.
Pyrenees Shire mayor Tanya Kehoe said the three pools were very popular in the region over summer but are starting to need considerable upkeep.
“Everyone loves these pools, but we have to be realistic that they are coming to the end of their life span and look ahead to what’s best for the region in terms of pools and other recreation activities,” she said.
“By continuing to undertake detailed asset reviews, identifying review and renewal options and better understanding our community leisure needs will provide a responsible and practical way forward for aquatic facilities in Pyrenees Shire.”
