It may have been a difficult week for the Carisbrook Lady Redbacks’ senior team, but there were most definitely some positives to come out of the weekend for the club.

Most notably, it was a win for the under 16 girls that gave them their first victory for the season against Darley, holding on to their lead in the last quarter after a furious third quarter charge gave the Lady Redbacks the advantage.

An opening stand which saw the Lady Redbacks kick two goals to one gave them a slender three-point lead at the first break, before Darley kicked the only goal of the second term to edge ahead by five points.

But the Lady Redbacks were determined to take their first win of the season, kicking two goals to no score to take a nine-point lead going into the final term.

Although Darley kicked a goal in the last quarter, Carisbrook held on to record a memorable two-point win.

Olivia Rogers was best on ground for Carisbrook, while Magli Stone, Rhiannon Carter, Rhani Evans, Ella Gourley and Eden Weaver were also big contributors.

Gourley, Tamika Loone-Grundy, Evans and Remi Jardine were the goalkickers.

Carisbrook’s under 16 team will now look to make it two in a row when they play Storm on Sunday.

Meantime, Carisbrook’s senior team will take to City Oval on Sunday afternoon with their toughest challenge of the season so far, with Redan their assignment.

The Lions have taken all before them in season 2023 so far, winning all four games and sitting on top with a percentage of 904.

Last Sunday saw Carisbrook concede seven goals in every quarter against Lake Wendouree, who eventually recorded a 184-point win.

Despite the margin, Tara Kennedy, Olivia Butler, Danae Every, Caitlin Butler and Zeanna Cassells never gave up.
