NAVARRE (26) def by CARISBROOK (57)

In a frantic final day of proceedings for the double chance, Carisbrook did enough to maintain third on the ladder with a 31-goal victory over Navarre.

The Redbacks were made to earn their victory after a tough first half, but were rewarded for their gritty performance with a strong second-half effort which saw them outscore the Hoppers 34 goals to 11.

Carisbrook got away to a decent start, scoring 14 goals to eight in the first quarter to open up a six-goal lead at the first change.

However, the Hoppers were determined to make the game a contest, and were able to enjoy their best quarter in the second period, holding the Redbacks to nine goals, while scoring seven themselves. It saw Carisbrook lead 23-15 at half time.

With fourth-placed Harcourt hot on their heels with their percentage-boosting 47-goal win over Newstead, the Redbacks needed to put in a big second half to ensure they would keep third on the ladder, and responded with a powerful third quarter which saw them score 17 goals, while restricting the Hoppers to only five.

Brook then finished off the game by scoring 17 goals to six in the final quarter to eventually run out 57-26 winners.

Best players were not provided prior to print deadline.

Andrea Schafer scored 31 goals, and Georgia Bell 26, in what was an even effort from both of the Redbacks’ goal-scorers, while Bek Seeary-Pye led the way for Navarre with 16 goals.

Carisbrook will now play Natte Bealiba in their qualifying final next weekend.
