Carisbrook bore the brunt of a brutal Redan outfit who never let up throughout the day, with the raging premiership favourites taking a 165-point victory over the Lady Redbacks at Ballarat’s Western Oval.
The Lady Redbacks were held scoreless for a second time this season by the Lions, who continued to assert their dominance on the competition.
Redan were able to kick five goals in the first quarter to establish a 33-point lead at the opening change, but were really able to kick away in the second term by kicking seven goals to lead by 83 points at the main break.
There was no letting up for the Lions, as they added six more goals to take a 121-point lead going into the final change, and they added a further seven goals in the last term to take a comfortable victory.
While the Lady Redbacks were unable to score, they did have their good performers throughout the balance of the afternoon as they fought hard against the tide.
Jade Cameron, Ashlyne McInnes, Maddison Smith, Bonnie Smart, Michaela Woolley and Sarah Lynch were all named in the best as they fought hard against Redan’s tsunami of talent.
The Lady Redbacks will have a chance to bounce back next week when they travel to Maddingley Park to face Bacchus Marsh, a team that Carisbrook were able to defeat earlier in the season.
Meantime, Carisbrook’s under 16 girls fought hard against Redan, but were unable to prevent a 35-point loss.
However, it was an improvement on the 53-point losing margin the last time the two teams met in round two, and the Lady Redbacks were in the game for long periods.
Redan got the jump by kicking two goals in the opening term to lead by 14 points at the first change, but could only add two behinds as the Lady Redbacks defended resolutely in the second term, with the margin 16 points at the main break.
The Lions cleared out again in the third term, scoring another two goals to lead by 31 points at the main break.
The Lady Redbacks were able to hit the scoreboard for the first time in the day in the last quarter, with Charlotte Metters kicking their sole goal, but Redan were also able to score a goal to keep the margin at 35 points.
Chloe Wyatt, Metters, Tori Taylor, Danika Anderson, Tahlia Jordan and Olivia Rogers were all named in the best for the Lady Redbacks.
The Lady Redbacks under 16s will now travel to Darley to face Bacchus Marsh next Sunday.
