Carisbrook had a tough day against a powerful Redan team, going down by 118 points at Carisbrook Recreation Reserve on Sunday.

The Lady Redbacks will be very happy with their first half performance, in which they were able to hold Redan to 40 points, but the second half saw the Lions’ class shine, scoring 11 goals.

The Lions got off to a good start on Sunday, scoring four goals to no score in the opening term as they opened up a 27-point lead.

But Carisbrook showed that they will be a team that are harder to score against when they play their best football in the second term, and Redan were only able to kick two goals as they extended their lead to 40 points at the main break.

However, the break also gave Redan a chance to regroup, and they were able to put their head down and return to their ruthless best in the third quarter, scoring five goals from 12 scoring shots to increase the lead to 77 points at the final change.

Carisbrook continued to fight hard, but Redan were too classy around the ground and held the Lady Redbacks scoreless for the day, while adding another six goals themselves to increase the margin past 100 points.

Despite going scoreless, the Lady Redbacks still had their good performers, with Julianne Baldock, Grace Brady, Danae Every, Maddison Smith, Anika Munn and Tara Curtis all named in the best players.

Meantime, it was a difficult task for Carisbrook’s under 16s, with Ballarat Swans taking a 69-point victory on Sunday morning.

Carisbrook played some dogged defence in the opening half, restricting the Swans to one goal in the first term and two in the second to trail by 22 points at the main break.

But the Swans started to show their class after the long break, adding four goals in the third quarter, while Carisbrook did manage to score, with Ava Bartlett scoring their only goal of the morning.

The Swans increased a 43-point third-quarter lead with four goals in the final term while holding Carisbrook scoreless, to eventually record a big win.

Despite the loss, Bartlett was Carisbrook’s best, with Emme Johnson, Amber Hogarth, Tamika Loone-Grundy, Erike Arce and Olivia Rogers also named in the best.

Carisbrook Lady Redbacks will now face the prospects of an improved Bacchus Marsh, who have won their last two contests, in the senior game on Sunday, while the under 16s will host Storm.
