Red Shield Appeal returns
The Salvation Army’s Red Shield Appeal is returning, with the Maryborough Corps hosting their own events to raise money for their community programs.

This year, the Maryborough Salvation Army said they are anticipating raising thousands of dollars.
“Our goal this year is $5000, it would be amazing if we could get more,” they said.
The Red Shield Appeal is nationwide and generally runs from April through to June each year, with a major fundraising event taking place in May.
The Red Shield Appeal aims to raise funds for local community programs and services.
“The money is going to help support our local community during this time and those who are doing it tough,” the Maryborough Salvation Army said.
Part of this year’s campaign, Maryborough Salvos Youth group hosted their annual car wash last Friday evening, washing nearly 20 cars, selling more than 50 sausages and rasing over $250.
Continuing their campaign, the the Maryborough Salvos will also be collecting donations throughout the town this week.
“We will be collecting at IGA from May 28 to 30, also weather permitting, the CFA will be helping collect at the traffic lights Saturday morning,” they said.
“People can bring donations to 27 Wills Street during office hours Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9.30 am until 2.30 pm.”
For their major event for this year’s appeal, the Maryborough Salvation Army is also inviting locals to join their trivia night this weekend.
The event is BYO food with tables of up to eight, entry for adults is $10, under 15s is $5 and under five is free.
Those attending without a team will be assigned a table.
The night will also include a silent auction.
“In regards to the silent auction there is a variety of items and vouchers that were generously donated by local business,” the Maryborough Salvation Army said.
The Red Shield Appeal Trivia night will be held on Saturday, May 31 at 6 pm, with doors opening at 5.30 pm, at 27 Wills Street, Maryborough.
