LAANECOORIE DUNOLLY 0/170 def CARISBROOK 6/104
An incredible record partnership between Luke Smith and Tom Hannett helped Laanecoorie Dunolly take a 66-run victory over a gallant Carisbrook at True Blue Floors Oval, who kept on fighting throughout.
The 170-run partnership was only brought to an end through the end of Laane’s 20-over innings, and when factoring in their one-day game against Maryborough last week, the reigning premiers have now effectively gone 323 runs without conceding a wicket.
Laane won the toss and elected to bat, sensing an opportunity to give Smith some solid time at the crease, as well as reward the good recent form of Hannett.
Both batters soon went to work, with Smith in particular looking the part at the crease.
They were able to dispatch everything Carisbrook threw at them, despite their best efforts.
Hannett was continuing his good form with the bat, having made 55 in last week’s game against Maryborough. He eventually pushed on to finish unbeaten on 71.
However, Smith was the starof the show, hitting 13 fours and a six to finish unbeaten on 88 off 63 balls.
The partnership eclipsed Laane’s previous best of 167, previously set by Shane Pollinelli and Colin McKenzie in 2008/09.
With Laane putting up a big total, Carisbrook needed a big effort to get a foothold into the game.
Sam Bartlett had other ideas though, and struck early to ensure the Brookers wouldn’t get a sniff.
Martin Mark was clean bowled by Bartlett, and then he had another wicket three balls later when Nick Broad was similarly bowled.
Dean Nalder and Cole Harris tried to settle down the innings, despite the massive total that was facing them, and were successful in putting 26 runs on the board.
Harris was able to make a run-a-ball 20 before he was caught and bowled by Sergio Rosier, who struck to leave Brook 3/31.
Nalder soon looked to play a little bit more aggressive to bring the total up for Carisbrook alongside James Adam, providing the bulk of the runs in their quickfire 19-run partnership.
But Thang Nguyen brought that to an end, striking with his first wicket at A grade level in clean bowling Adam.
Brad Thompson came in, and looked to bring some more quick runs, but soon after, Jarred Russell struck to remove him for 11 off 10, and Russell soon had a second when he bowled Cooper Willis.
To finish the innings, Nalder made a well-deserved 50 as he continued his good form, while Cooper Mark also finished unbeaten on four.
Bartlett was Laane’s best bowler, finishing with figures of 2/4 off his two overs, while Russell finished with 2/13 off two, with all 10 outfielders bowling for Laane.
