In the ride up to Christmas, Maryborough’s Riding Develops Abilities (RDA) has opened its famous pop-up shop in town to raise funds for its operations next year.

The third of its kind, the shop has been very successful in the past — prompting RDA members to rely on it as a source of annual fundraising.

“Last year we would have raised around $2000 and that’s a good amount for us,” Maryborough RDA head coach Aileen Marshall said.

“All that money goes to the riders for things that they need. It can be equipment like helmets or other safety gear.

“We’d love to get the same response this time around too.”

Raising these funds is important to support all riders and to help them achieve their individual goals according to Ms Marshall.

“Our ultimate objective is to [provide for] our riders. This money goes to them — helps them enter competitions and even win,” she said.

Apart from backing riders, the money from this year’s fundraiser will also go towards the RDA’s new centre, with the group having to relocate soon.

Ms Marshall said to achieve all their goals, they relied on the community’s participation and encouraged residents to visit the popup shop.

“Maryborough has been really supportive and if people come in and they only just buy one item — all of it goes into our new center and that’s going to be expensive,” she said.

“People can just pop in anytime and support us by buying some little item.

“I feel really positive about the shop and getting into next year and having a successful year ahead.”

Filled with handmade goodies, there’s something for everyone. From Christmas decorations and stockings to cushions, aprons, tea-towels and hats.

“We have new stuff coming in everyday. And if anyone pops in and has something they can’t see and would like, they can just ask.

We might be able to accommodate them because there’s a lot of stock or we can quickly make it,” Ms Marshall said.

The pop-up shop is open from now until December 20 in Nolan Street next to the Telstra shop — open all days from 8.30 am to 4 pm.
