The Rainbow Serpent Festival won’t return to Lexton until late 2023.

Nearly four years after it last went ahead, Rainbow Serpent Festival organisers have announced the event will now be pushed back from its original April date to late 2023.

Lexton’s four-day music festival has not run since January 2019 after the Lexton bushfires burned through parts of the festival site just before Christmas the same year, followed by the pandemic.

With concerns raised around the safety of holding the festival during peak summer temperatures and bushfire season, the festival dates were planned to be moved to Easter, however organisers have announced via a social media post that the event will now be pushed back.

“As many of you will recall, our last message advised of our need to find a new date to hold our gathering due to the extreme summer weather and high fire risk conditions in January becoming unworkable,” the statement read.

“We had originally hoped this would be around Easter but have recently been advised our multi-year permit renewal process will likely not be completed in time to allow for an Easter 2023 event.

“We have decided that late 2023, on the leading edge of the new summer months, will be the ideal time of year with a high probability of warm weather and our beautiful Lexton home will still be lush and green.

“We are working with our consultants to lock in the exact dates taking into consideration acceptable conditions for safety and fire risk.

“While we know this seems like quite a long wait again, we are super excited with the opportunity this new time of year will bring and the extra anticipation to reunite with you all at your favourite festival home will make the occasion even more special.”
