Saturday’s persistent rain wreaked havoc on sport in Maryborough, with multiple wash-outs.

All of the Maryborough District Cricket Association’s crucial ninth round of competition was abandoned without a ball being bowled, with ramifications for the one-day competition as a result.

Laanecoorie Dunolly secured their spot in the final, and can also secure top spot for the one-day portion of the competition with a win over Carisbrook at True Blue Floors Oval this Saturday.

Beaufort are in the box seat to make a fairytale grand final appearance after going through the 2022/23 season winless, and barring a disastrous loss in their first home game of the season to Maryborough at Goldfields Reserve, as well as a big Clunes win over Colts Phelans at Hedges Oval, look set to be Laane’s main challengers.

As a result of the washouts, Carisbrook and Maryborough have been knocked out of the running for a grand final spot.

Elsewhere, only half of the lawn bowls competition went ahead on Saturday, with four games played across both divisions and four games washed out.

In division one, Dunolly Gold’s game with Maryborough Golf was called off, as was Talbot Gold’s blockbuster clash with Dunolly Blue.

Division two likewise saw two washouts, with Carisbrook’s clash with Dunolly Green called, as well as Maryborough Golf Gold’s clash with Talbot Brown.
