With three circuits on offer, ranging from the beginner friendly 33 kilometre course to the more challenging 53 km and 96 km trails, riders will be able to cycle along routes best suited to their fitness levels.

All rides will kick off from the Summerfield Winery and will take in the towns of Moonambel and Landsborough before turning around to return to the winery.

Organised biannually by the Maryborough Rotary Club, the event is held in a non-competitive, Audax style — providing people an opportunity to ride in a safe and relaxing manner, all while raising funds for the club.

According to the group’s member Brian Reed, the September ride is already looking to be a success.

“Last year was excellent — we had around 160 participants,” he said.

“Following on from that, we’re expecting around 120 people this time and that’ll be really good too.”

Proceeds from the 2023 ride, amounting to about $5500, benefitted the Maryborough District Health Service’s oncology wing.

Hoping to raise a similar sum this time around as well, Mr Reed said the funds would support another one of Rotary’s community projects.

“We haven’t confirmed what initiative we’ll fundraise for yet but there’s a couple of options,” he said.

“There’s a small island near Papua New Guinea, and there’s a project underway to fix schools there, put in toilets and other essential things — we might use the profits to help them out.

“Hopefully, we’ll be able to at least provide $4000 in funding from the ride.”

Not only is the ride a great way to raise money, but it’s also an opportunity to connect with nature and fellow community members.

“It’s going to be safe, around beautiful scenery, and the weather is normally really good around that time,” Mr Reed said.

“People should definitely consider attending — they’ll be around other residents so they can socialise as well.

“There’ll also be complimentary food and drinks after the ride so it will be perfect.”

The Pyrenees Magic Tri Distance Bike Ride will be held on September 27 from 9 am to 3 pm.

Tickets start at $25 — prices vary based on circuit preference.
