Goals proved hard to come by as Maryborough fell to Moorabool Valley in their AFL Masters Country Victoria match on Sunday.

The visitors put the clamps down on Maryborough’s forwards, defeating the Pumas 9.10 (64) to 3.4 (22) in a physical contest at Princes Park.

The Crocs kicked the first two goals of the match with the aid of a stiff breeze in the first term and were never headed, despite a Maryborough rally in the final quarter.

“It was tough for both sides but Moorabool Valley made the most of their chances while we didn’t,” Maryborough coach Terry Hillier said.

“We aim to make Princes Park our fortress each time we play here. The effort was there but there’s a bit we need to work on for next time.”

Jake Meyer was outstanding in defence for the home team in a performance that included a spectacular contested mark in the final quarter.

Other good players for Maryborough included Jackson Fitzpatrick and Chris Cudia (one goal each), Lauchlan Williams, Cal Evans and Jibb Iglesias.

Maryborough’s next match is an away fixture against Kerang Rams on June 16.

Jake Meyer sends one to the forward line.
Jibb Iglesias gets a centre clearance.
